Last night my mom came over for dinner. We had tacos. After dinner she played with the kids a bit and then all three of them helped seperate seeds from pumpkin guts, as I carved. The pumpkin looks pretty good considering I drew it without a pattern. Something I cooked up in my imagination. Daughter told me it had to look scary. I’ll post pictures later when I can get a good shot of it in the dark.
I read something in the paper about spraying it with lemon juice. In doing so the pumpkin doesn’t decay as rapidly. In Florida thats probably a good idea. Alaskans don’t have to worry about that, since the pumpkins freezes once you set it outside. Its when it starts to melt from the temperature fluctuation, things start getting nasty. Nothin’ like mushy frostbitten pumpkin on your doorstep.
Mom’s illness seems to be less though she complains of coughing spells before bed. She just learned that Oncology in Tampa wants to see her. They need several blood samples. I can’t believe she has to drive that far to get her blood drawn! The VA clinic in Orlando doesn’t have an Oncology department. I wonder if she’ll have to drive there every time she needs a treatment! Fucking unbelieveable.
I told her once again to move to Alaska. She wouldn’t have to drive far to get treatment and there isn’t a shitty clinic, theres an actual hospital that would cater to her every need.
All she can think about is the snow and how much she hates walking or driving in it. The snow seems to more important than her health, when she fixates on it. There is so much more thats waiting for her back home. I told her if she had cancer she wasn’t going to be walking or driving around in that crap. She’d be nice and snuggly in her warm bed, being waited upon, hand and foot!
